Meter convention 150 years

On October 22, 2025, it was noted that 150 years had passed since the Metre Convention was signed with a seminar in the Riksdagshuset, the Swedish Parliament building.

The Society of Members of Parliament and Researchers (RIFO) organized the seminar: “Measuring the Right Measure – The Metre Convention 150 Years“.

Member of Parliament Ulrik Nilsson welcomed the seminar. Karl Grandin, Director of the Centre for the History of Science, then began with a historical retrospective, after which Jan Johansson, Head of Sweden’s National Metrological Centres, RISE, spoke about “Present and Future/Opportunities and Challenges”. The moderator was Jennifer Mack, Associate Professor of Architecture, KTH.

Archivist Anne Miche de Malleray supervised the small exhibition in the Riksdagshuset which contained a Riksskålpound (KVA316), a kilogram (KVA301) and a meter stick (KVA363).
