The Archives are open to a limited number of pre-booked visitors. Opening hours are Tuesday-Thursday 1 p.m.–4.30 pm. For further information see below.

Premises

The Center for the History of Science is located next to the Academy of Sciences’ main building in the Northern parts of Djurgården. Call the staff at the Center via the intercom at the Academy of Sciences’ main entrance. Staff from the Center will take you to the reading room. Bags and outerwear are not allowed in the reading room, but must be placed in lockable cabinets and in the wardrobe at the Center. Notebooks and laptops may be taken to the tables and free WiFi is available.

Public transport
Bus 50 from Fridhemsplan, Centralen or Odenplan to the University. The subway’s red line towards Mörby Centrum, get off at the University. Roslagsbanan, lines 27 and 28 from Stockholms Östra, get off at the University.

Car
From central Stockholm, drive towards Roslagstull and North on Roslagsvägen. Turn right at Stockholm University and follow the signs.
From the north, towards and past Bergshamra, follow the signs for Stockholm, turn right at the sign.

Parking permit and fee at the office
A parking permit and paid parking fee are required to park at the Academy’s office. The fee is SEK 10/hour or SEK 50/day and can be paid in a parking machine on site or via mobile phone with the EasyPark app. Parking permits are issued by the staff at the Center and provide permission to park in marked places in the area, but not in a reserved space.

Opening hours 2024

The Center for the History of Science is open to visitors. We are open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 1 pm–4.30 pm. Researchers must prebook their visit.

The Center is closed for holidays from 25 June to 12 August 2024. We are also closed January 11, March 21, 28, April 9, 30, May 8 & June 20.

Accessibility for the disabled

The archive is located on the ground floor and is accessible by wheelchair. Please let us know if you have any needs in advance of your visit, so that every effort can be made to assist you.

Access to the collections

You must fill in order slips for each volume you wish to take part of. Normally, you can only order five volumes at a time to the table. With the exception of maps and drawings, you do not need to pre-order materials as the delivery time is short. Note that materials that are too fragile or that are broken are not available for research.
