Vitön

The Centrer’s archives lend themselves to many different questions. The diaries and photographs of the ill-fated Andrée expedition are at the Centre for the History of Science and is a deposition from the Swedish Society for Anthropology and Geography (SSAG). This material is currently being highlighted through both a film and a book.

The French-Swedish documentary film The Death on Vitön depicts the Andrée expedition’s failed attempt to reach the North Pole by balloon in 1897. The filming was partly done on the Center’s premises a few years ago and the results can now be seen on  SvT-Play.
